Don't know how many of you are familiar with the Sturgis rally held every August but it started in 1938 (no I wasn't there) when a small group of motorcycle riders (I think it was 12) got together to race their bikes on a dirt track, trade stories, drink beer, and have a good time. They started the Jackpine Gypsys Motorcycle Club. (still in existance) The rally was skipped twice during WWII because all or most of the guys were overseas. The ones who came back after the war were older and wiser but they still loved bikes. The club grew, though they still only have one chapter, and they held the Black Hills Motor Classic every year up until the rally went commercial in 1991. There were approximately 275,000 motorcyclists attending in 1999, down from 350,000 in 1998.
Who knows? Maybe someday the "Witch Doctor" rally will be even bigger.
